I am one lucky boy! Thanks to some very generous friends, I was lucky enough to be invited to the 3DS launch event over at Old Billingsgate and I wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else when the console was unleashed to the UK public.
With the Nintendo 3DS being the first piece of true 3D tech, Nintendo didn’t hold back on the spending when it came to the launch party where we were treated to endless booze, mini treats in the shape of hot dogs, burgers, fish and chips and steak and ale pie and of course, booths that showed off their pride and joy. On offer were all of the launch titles that will be shipping with the 3DS but also some surprises were on show such as LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean which was a joy to play. It’s games like this which really show off the capabilities of the 3DS well and with little strain on your eyes one can enjoy fantastic graphics, improved control thanks to one of the best analog sticks I’ve used in years and of course, 3D.
Well that’s enough of me selling the 3DS (which I’m sure anyone who is reading this has already got!) but more about this party! The event kicked off around 7pm and allowed celebs, games journalists and selected Nintendo club members to come and have a great night leading up to the launch of the 3DS. They were selling the handheld device at midnight and the first 100 people to get one for the rather crazy price of £219 would get a free game and Nintendo mag – not too bad in the end then! To entertain us until the launch, Nintendo invited some class acts including DJ Yoda, Plan B, Hadouken, up and coming girl band Parade to perform while Russell Kane hosted the event. While this was going on they had Street Fighter matches on the big screen going on in the next room and chances to get your photo taken with Ryu and Ken or Mario and Luigi – I couldn’t find the fighting duo but I was happy enough with my photo of the two mushroom addicts ( I swear they aren’t meant to be this big?).

Oh, and I also got my photo taken with Ono-san! Amazing!

What else can I say? It was an awesome night, met a ton of awesome people and got to play games + drink – good time! Now if you will excuse me I’m off to try and clear my head and attempt to remember how on earth I made it back to the hotel room…nice to have a blog post up at last too!
